The Murano Bouquet

The centuries-old tradition of glass making in Murano and surrounding Venice is wonderful to witness first hand. It feels as though there are skilled artisans and beautiful pieces almost everywhere I looked. I was certainly spoilt for choice, I purchased this vase in a little store right on one of the many canals. It's true that many cities have parts which are wonderful, however Venice will always be close to my heart as the entire city feels like a fairytale.

This piece is a reflection of the vivid colours which stick in my mind after my trip to Italy. The blues of the Venetian canals, the browns of the Venetian plaster and the green of the awe-inspiring Dolomites. There's also something wonderful in that the vast spectrum of coloured rods which I use to create my pieces all come from Murano.
It feels an honour and a privilege to have one of my bouquets in a vase from Murano's rich artistic heritage and I believe it's a wonderful opportunity to bring Italian craftsmanship into your home.
Much of my work is inspired by the incredible places I've been fortunate enough to see. While visiting these beautiful places I will be buying a handmade vase from a local artist. I will then use this to create a one-off piece which will be specially designed to be a reflection of the place the vase originated from.
I've been fortunate enough see a lot of this beautiful world we live in and I think we all feel a responsibility to protect it. Which is why a percentage of each sale will be donated to World Land Trust. World Land Trust's mission is clear; fundraise to then purchase large areas of environmentally-threatened land and then pass this on to local people people who know how to care for it best. 100% of the sale of The Murano Vase will be donated.
I individually handcraft every petal of each flower from molten glass in a 1200 degree flame. Once complete each stem is fired in a kiln to 'anneal', this strengthens the glass whilst cooling it. The whole process takes around 10 hours from glass rod to beautiful bloom. Checkout the listing video to see a little more of the process.
Every flower is individually handmade, using stainless steel wire and molten glass. Each petal is added, one at a time, shaping the glass to create the perfect bloom before placing it into a kiln to anneal.
The stems are stainless steel, please do not attempt to trim the stems without sharp wire cutters, else the vibrations from cutting with insufficient tools may damage the petals. Please also refrain from bending or shaping the wire, this can cause the glass within the head of the flower to move causing cracks in the glass to occur.
Each glass flower is individually wrapped and secured in eco-friendly packaging.
Each product is made to order but will be a fair representation of the product listed.
